A shoe from 14th century :)
Almost all rudder fastenings now cleaned and protected with fish oil. Still a lot of work ahead and many layers of fish oil :)
We had a pleasure to be part of the #itämeripäivä  and share our work with anyone interested. Many people came and shared this wonderful cultural heritage with us. #meremuuseum #soomeinstituut #läänemerepäev #fogheritage
Removing moist sand under the frames of the Lootsi Cog today. After couple full wheel barrows of sand  this piece of pottery came up. It is quite thin, porour ceramics. The glaze is only on the outside. There are more similar pieces found. Let's see
Hazelnut. So they ate those, the medieval seafarers who sailed this ship, lived in it.

Came up with one of the spoonfulls of sand from under the planks in mid-ship. Such a small thing, perhaps meaningful when considering it with the other foodstuffs
Here Heikki is wearing a fine pair of 2020s mirrored sunglasses found on board the 14th century Lootsi ship. The things this ship yields!

I mean safety first, glasses are needed when hammering iron crusts to reveal the beautiful original surface o
Todays's catch. Was not expecting to find this under the keelson in the bow area. Very narrow sole of the shoe, isn't it. Looks like womens high heel shoe :)
